WINNABOW – Cole Brisson and Ryne Priest combined on a no-hitter and Bladen County exploded for 14 runs in the 5th inning to close out a 20-1 victory over Lumberton Monday in the 2024 North Carolina Dixie Boys State Tournament at Town Creek Park.
Bladen County will play the loser of the Dallas/Brunswick County game at 9 a. m. Tuesday in an elimination game.
Brisson started on the hill for Bladen and pitched 4 innings allowing a run on 3 walks and a hit batter while striking out 5. Priest worked a 1-2-3 5th inning and struck out 1.
Luke Bryant raked a single to left to start the game, and Corben Chadwick pounded a double to left. Two outs later Cole Brisson cracked a single to center, and Omar Powell slapped a single to left. Bryant, Chadwick and Brisson all scored for a 3-0 Bladen lead.
Delton Murdock spanked a single to right to start the Bladen 2nd inning and came around to score and boost the lead to 4-1.
Devan Stanley delivered a 1-out single in the Bladen 4th inning. Bryant yanked a single to left, and Chadwick smacked a single to right. Chase Bryan followed with a single, and Stanley and Bryant scored to pad the lead to 6-1.
Priest slammed a double to begin the Bladen 5th inning. Powell belted a single, and Gavin Brisson hammered a double to right field. Murdock was hit by a pitch, and Fox Sutton and Bryant laced singles. Chase Bryan singled, and Noah German drilled a double to right.
Ashton Bryan scorched a single, and Gavin Brisson ripped a double. Murdock swatted a single, and Sutton walloped a double to right-center field. Cayden Morton smashed a single to right-center, and Chadwick clobbered a double to center field.
Sutton, Gavin Brisson and Murdock scored 2 runs each in the inning. Bryant, Morton, Chase Bryan, German, Priest, Powell and Ashton Bryan scored 1 run each.
For the game, Bryant batted 3-for-4 and scored 3 runs, and Chadwick finished 3-for-5 with 2 doubles and a run scored. Sutton batted 2-for-2 with a double and 2 runs scored. Gavin Brisson finished 2-for-2 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored. Cole Brisson also turned in a 2-for-2 game with a run scored.
Murdock finished 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored. Powell turned in a 2-for-3 with a run scored. German batted 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Chase Bryan finished 2-for-5 with a run scored. Priest doubled and scored a run. Morton, Ashton Bryan and Stanley all singled and scored runs.
