Playing Friday in the third round of the Kathy Whitworth Championship in Trophy City, Texas, Kayla Thompson shot a two-under 70 to move into a tie for 16th place, an 11-position jump up the leaderboard. She’s at 1-under 215.
Thompson opened the tournament Wednesday with a 70 and followed with a 75 Thursday to make the cut and was tied for 27th.
Friday’s round included a 32 on the front nine holes with birdies on No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 7. She had a 38 on the back nine, which included a birdie and three bogeys.
Mary Parsons of Canada is leading the tournament by five shots with a three day score of 13-under 203.
The final round is scheduled Saturday.
Thompson is a graduate of West Bladen High School and UNC Wilmington and lives in Clarkton.
