Lawson Hester ran for 198 yards and three touchdowns to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 26-20 victory Monday night in Bladen Five Middle School Conference football action at Clarkton Monday night.
Clarkton’s Teyshaun Berkeley put the Blue Devils on the board in the first quarter with a 3-yard touchdown run. The 2-point conversion attempt failed and Clarkton led 6-0.
Tar Heel’s Kendall Pone dashed 11 yards for a touchdown with two minutes left in the first half. The Panthers’ 2-point conversion attempt failed and the teams were tied 6-6 at halftime.
Pone scampered 23 yards around left end for a go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter. The 2-point conversion failed and Tar Heel led 12-6.
Hester circled left end and outran the defense on a 43-yard Clarkton touchdown run. The 2-point conversion attempt failed, and the game was tied 12-12.
Pone returned the ensuing kickoff 62 yards for a Panther touchdown. Quarterback Tyre Boykin carried into the end zone for the 2-point conversion that stretched the Tar Heel lead to 20-12.
On Clarkton’s next drive, Hester galloped 60 yards around left end for a touchdown. Hester bulled into the end zone for the 2-point conversion that tied the game 20-20.
A fumble on the next Panther possession turned the ball back over to the Blue Devils. Hester then raced 30 yards for the deciding touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed and Clarkton led 26-20.
The teams traded possession to end the game.
Berkeley rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown for the Blue Devils.
CSD finishes the year with a 2-4 record.
