Rahu_PurdieWest Bladen grad Rahu Purdie sparked a Lander run that pulled the Bearcats to within a point early in the second half, but King University from Bristol, TN held on for a 69-64 non-conference victory in Greenwood, SC Wednesday night.

King led 40-28 a minute into the second half, before Purdie bombed in a 3-pointer to trim the King lead to 40-33, then drove for a lay-up. The freshman guard flipped in a floater from the right side that closed the gap to 40-39 with 15:14 left in the game.

Purdie canned a jump shot and added a lay-up in the first half and totaled 11 points in 29 minutes of action. The White Oak native connected on 5 of his 8 shots from the field and hit one of two 3-point attempts.

Purdie also contributed 2 rebounds, 2 assists and one steal for the Bearcats who suffered their first loss of the season after 2 victories. Lander will travel to Limestone College in Gaffney, SC Saturday for a 7:30 game.
