BasketballHeide Trask raced to an early 17-3 lead en route to an 80-54 Four County Conference victory over visiting East Bladen Tuesday night.

The Titans scored the first 17 points of the game, before Eagle senior Matt Massengill beat the first quarter buzzer with a 3-point shot.

A 25-15 second quarter surge widened the gap to 42-18 at halftime. Trask led 60-38 after 3 periods.

Fouls were a problem early as Trask was shooting 1-and-1 with 3:56 left in the opening quarter. East Bladen’s leading scorer, Farrell Murchison, was whistled for a trio of first period fouls and battled foul trouble throughout the game.

“We just didn’t play very well,” said East Bladen Coach Ken Cross. “The fouls didn’t help things, but we are a little banged up and just didn’t play strong with the ball.”

Murchison drained a 3-point shot and topped the East scoring with 13 points. Sophomore Eian Hines added 9 points for the Eagles, and junior center Chris Cromartie and junior Jermaine Robinson followed with 8 points each.

Robinson bombed in a pair of 3-point shots for East Bladen, and teammates Dayvon Powell and Monterro Graham connected on one 3-point shot each. Graham finished with 6 points.

Tyquan Davis pumped in 25 points to lead the Trask scoring.

East Bladen drops to 4-7 in the league and 9-11 overall. The Eagles host Wallace-Rose Hill Friday night.
