West Bladen grad D. J. Mason pumped in 16 points as his Campbell Camels posted a 76-70 non-conference victory at Charlotte Wednesday night.

The victory over the Charlotte 49ers was the fourth consecutive victory for the Camels who raised their record to 5-2.

Mason powered in 2 key rebound baskets in the final 1:59 to stretch a 71-70 Campbell lead to 75-70.

The 6-6 senior connected on 6 of 9 shots from the field, drained both of his 3-point attempts and sank 2 of 3 free throws. Mason grabbed 5 rebounds and had one assist and one steal.

Mason buried a 3-point shot in the first minute of play and nailed another 3-point shot midway the first half that gave the Camels a 20-9 lead. The Clarkton native canned another jumper to extend the lead to 24-11 at the 8:58 mark.

Charlotte rallied to within 37-34 at halftime, but Mason opened the second half with another follow shot then added 2 free throws for a 43-36 Camel lead.

The Camels travel to UNC-Asheville Sunday for a Big South Conference game. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
