DJ Mason Keys Campbell from Bladen County West Bladen grad D. J. Mason posted a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds Thursday night, but his Campbell Camels dropped a tough Big South Conference decision 60-56 to visiting Radford.

Mason connected on 8 of 18 shots from the field and sank all 4 of his free throw attempts. The 6-6 senior dished out 3 assists and had 3 steals and 2 blocked shots.

Two Mason free throws tied the game 12-12 with 13:26 left in the first half. The Clarkton native dropped in a follow shot, popped in a jumper then slammed in a dunk to keep the Camels within 22-20 with 5:58 on the clock.

Mason canned another jumper, then made 2 free throws to edge Campbell ahead 31-29 at halftime.

Two more Mason lay-ups stretched the lead to 39-35, and Mason tossed in another jump shot as the lead grew to 49-37 with 12:01 remaining. A Mason tip-in with 10:34left grew the Campbell lead to 51-38.

However Radford rallied with a 22-5 closing blitz to pull out the victory.

Mason was honored in pre-game ceremonies Saturday on Senior Day, but the Camels lost 87-71 to Winthrop. Mason had 2 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists Saturday.

Campbell will play Gardner-Webb Thursday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Big South Conference Tournament at Campbell.
