Rahu Purdie LanderWest Bladen grad Rahu Purdie fired in 17 points Wednesday night as his Lander Bearcats clinched the Peach Belt Conference’s East Division title with a 91-84 victory over Georgia College.

It was the second Peach Belt title in school history for the Bearcats who tied a school record for PBC wins with 13.

Purdie connected on 6 of 8 shots from the floor, made all three of his 3-point shots and sank both of his free throw attempts. The 5-9 guard dished out 4 assists and had a steal and a rebound.

The White Oak native sent an assist to Sergio Smith for a lay-up then bombed in a 3-point shot early in the first half. A Purdie jump shot stretched Lander’s lead to 26-22, and another Purdie assist created a 3-point shot for J. R. Washington that put the Bearcats up 31-22.

Purdie nailed another 3-pointer to up the Lander lead to 46-33, before Georgia College rallied back to within 46-38 at halftime.

After the Lander lead was trimmed to 51-49, a Purdie assist led to a Tobiasz Hose basket, and Purdie buried another 3-point shot to edge the Bearcats back on top 56-54.

Another Purdie assist to Hose, and a Purdie lay-up kept Lander up 62-61 midway the second half. Georgia went back in front, but a Purdie jumper with 6:50 left pulled the Bearcats to within 72-71.

Purdie hit 2 free throws with 11 seconds remaining for the final points of the game.
