NAKINA – Riegelwood pushed across a run in the seventh inning to edge Bladen County 7-6 Tuesday night in an elimination game in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 AAA (Minors) Tournament.

It was a tough two-game run for Bladen County who led Whiteville Optimist 7-6 until the final inning in their tourney opener.

“We played a great game,” said Bladen County Coach Joseph Russ about Tuesday’s game. “We came up a run short tonight. Our defensive effort was great. We just did not hit the ball.”

Cade Allen led off the Bladen second inning with a single and dashed home when Trenton Hughes belted a single. Joe Johnson drew a walk in the third inning and raced home with the second Bladen run.

Aiden Russ belted a single in the Bladen fourth inning, and Hezikiah Adams knocked him in with a single. Adams came around to score the second run of the inning.

Bladen County added 2 runs in the sixth. Adams was hit by a pitch and Allen walked. Both Adams and Allen worked their way around the bases to score the final 2 Bladen runs.

Russ, Adams, Allen, Hughes, and De’Anthony Smith connected for one hit each for Bladen County. Adams and Allen scored 2 runs each, and Russ and Johnson scored one run each. Adams and Hughes drove in one run each.

Hunter White started on the mound for Bladen County and pitched 3 innings. Allen relieved White and pitched 4 innings.
