PEMBROKE – Bladenboro native Abbey Walters pitched a complete game victory and walloped a 3-run home run to lead her UNC-Pembroke Lady Braves to a 6-1 victory Sunday over previously unbeaten Shippensburg, PA in the UNCP Invitational.

Walters needed only 81 pitches to raise her record to 3-0 and lower her ERA to 0.81. She only allowed 6 hits, while walking none and striking out four. Shippensburg had averaged 8 runs per game in their first 4 games.

The West Bladen grad drove in the Lady Braves first run with a run-scoring ground-out, then hammered the 3-run homer over the leftfield fence in the third inning.

Walters was named to the UNCP Invitational All-Tournament team. At the plate she batted .313 with 2 home runs and 7 runs batted in.

UNC-Pembroke, now 3-2, will travel to Charlotte Thursday for a 2 p.m. double-header at Queens University.
