BLADENBORO – ShyRon Adams lit up the scoreboard with 35 points Tuesday night to lead Bladenboro to a 41-38 Bladen Five Middle School Conference victory over Clarkton School of Discovery.
Adams took charge early firing in 4 first-quarter baskets and 2 free throws as the Bulldogs raced to a 13-2 lead. Teammate Donovan Stone worked inside for a basket and a free throw. Cornelius McArthur scored the only Blue Devil basket in the period.
J. T. Junious dropped in a pair of second quarter baskets, and teammates Jake Garrison and Malachi Oxendine bombed in 3-point shots to lead a Blue Devil rally that closed the gap to 22-14 at halftime. McArthur and Jacob Priest hit free throws for Clarkton in the period.
Adams threw in a trio of baskets for the Bulldogs in the quarter, Joshua Lewis sank 2 free throws, and Andrew Pait hit one.
Priest nailed a 3-point shot in the third period as the Clarkton comeback continued. Oxendine, McArthur and guard Garrett Melvin connected for a basket each as the Blue Devils pulled to within 26-23.
Adams blistered the nets for a trio of baskets that kept Bladenboro on top in the third quarter. Adams filled up the basket in the final period with 4 baskets and 7 free throws.
Garrison and Priest drained 3-point shots in the final quarter for Clarkton. Garrison netted a pair of 2-point baskets, and Priest and Melvin contributed a 2-point basket each. Melvin also hit a free throw.
Garrison led the Blue Devil scoring with 10 points, and Priest finished with 9 points. Melvin, McArthur and Oxendine followed with 5 points each.
Coach Phillip Penny’s Bulldogs improved to 5-2 with the victory. The Blue Devils are also 5-2.
