The Bladen County Board of Commissioners are expected to hold a public hearing Monday and consider for approval a rezoning request for a retail store to be built at the intersection of NC 242 South and Twisted Hickory Road.

The hearing is part of the board’s regularly scheduled meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m. inside the Commissioners’ Room located on the lower level of the Bladen County Courthouse at 106 East Broad Street in Elizabethtown.

The meeting is open to the public and also can be heard by phone by calling 571-317-3122, access code 377-006-581. Click here for a detailed version of Monday’s agenda.

Rhetson Companies of West End is making the request to change current zoning at the site from Residential-Agricultural to Commercial in order to build a retail store with a parking lot on the corner of the property. The request application does not list the name of the proposed retail store. The property is owned by Franklin White of Raleigh, according to the application.

According to the application, the rezoning will help to fill a need in this area of the county. The proposed retail store will allow for a shorter commute for the individuals in the neighborhood to acquire common household needs.

In other business on Monday’s agenda, the board is expected to:

• Consider accepting a payment deadline of March 13 to avoid advertisement of unpaid 2022 real property taxes.

• Consider approving use of $43,650 of previously appropriated ARPA-enabled funding for field renovations at Bladen County Park.

• Consider approving $339,285 for three stream debris removal projects.
