The second annual Touch-A-Truck event hosted by Bladen Community College was a great success this past Saturday. There were people of all ages exploring and learning about different types of vehicles.

Touch a Truck is a unique and interactive event that allows children and adults to explore vehicles they may have only heard about. Bladen County Sheriff’s Office stationed its Command Mobile Unit at the event; Dublin Volunteer Fire Department offered its fire engine for display. Novant Health’s helicopter was parked on grass, and a tanker truck from the North Carolina Baptist on Mission Disaster Relief was on site. Classic cars were lined up for viewing pleasures during the family-fun event; these are only some of the vehicles spotlighted at the educational affair.

Local businesses were also on site. Barefoot Boujee Boutique offered unique clothes, while the People’s Emporium Inc sold crafts and specialty items. Barefoot Brew and Sunset Slush of Tar Heel poured and scooped refreshing cups of thirst quenchers to customers.

Children were all smiles when they were allowed to wear some of the first responders’ gear and given toys by the North Carolina Highway Patrol Officers.

Joel Ferdon expressed his excitement at seeing Mandy Butler and Susan Guyton with the Bladen County Public Library giving away books. Shane Freeman, Superintendent at Jones Lake State Park, drew a crowd to his table by displaying wildlife animals.

Sondra Guyton, Vice President for Institutional Advancement & Community Relations with BCC, said, “We had over 30 different vehicles at the event, and the children really had fun!”

This year the Touch a Truck event surpassed last year’s exploration education and attendance. The college plans to continue to see the popular event grow each year. Please learn more about Bladen Community College events on their website at https://www.bladencc.edu/events/.
