Bladen Community College (BCC) is hosting its annual plant sale, an event eagerly anticipated by the local community and initiated by agribusiness students. The first sale, held on Earth Day, April 22, 2022, coincided with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Cape Fear Farm Credit Lobby in Building Nine and the opening of the new greenhouse on the college campus.

Lynn Marshburn, BCC Agribusiness Technology Instructor, emphasized the value of the greenhouse at its inauguration. “A greenhouse is an invaluable asset to any agricultural program,” Marshburn said. “With the opening of this facility, we can provide the practical skills necessary for success in agriculture here in Bladen County.”

This year, the plant sale will last longer than the initial single-day event. It will run from Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 9:00 AM to Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 2:00 PM EDT. Extending the sale offers more opportunities for community members to engage with and support the college’s agribusiness program.

In preparation for the event, BCC shared a sneak peek of the sale on social media and encouraged the public to mark their calendars. “Make sure you’ve got our upcoming plant sale marked on your calendars! April 17th to 20th from 9 am to 2 pm. Payments can be made with cash, check, or card,” the post read.

The plant sale features a variety of plants cultivated in the college’s greenhouse, showcasing the practical applications of the skills taught in the agribusiness program. In addition to the plant sales, BCC offers an associate degree in applied science in agribusiness technology, among other certificates, enhancing career prospects in the agricultural sector.
