Another COVID-19 (coronavirus) related death has been added to the report in Bladen County. Dr. Teresa Duncan, DNP, NE-C, CPHQ, Bladen Health and Human Service Director released the latest COVID-19 update. According to the report, Bladen County has 955 positive COVID-19 cases with 66 active cases, five people are hospitalized, and 18 deaths in the county are related to the virus.

Yesterday there were 17 COVID-19 related deaths reported in the county. The state of North Carolina has also seen an increase in virus-related deaths over yesterday’s report.

According to the county’s reports, the total for N.C. coronavirus-related deaths yesterday was 3,670, and today the count increased to 3,693 related deaths.

According to North Carolina data, another note to be addressed is depression and anxiety have tripled since the start of the pandemic. Bladen County Emergency Management Director, David Howell, said there had been a 28% increase in Bladen County overdoses since January. He contributed the increase to the pandemic.

The rise in mental health is mostly affecting younger people and underrepresented communities.
