Ten Tar Heel High School Varsity Cheerleaders attended the International Cheerleading Foundation Camp at Davidson College.
Winfred Johnson of Elizabethtown, a ECU baseball player, was named to the National All American Team by Baseball America after his junior year at ECU. Johnson batted .432, had 75 rbi, 22 homeruns, 150 total bases while playing 1st base for the Pirates baseball team. He also pitched and was a designated hitter. Johnson was inducted into the ECU Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
