56 local dogs died. It was determined the deaths were linked to afatoxin contaminated dog food produced by an Elizabethtown company.
Jeff Robertson of Elizabethtown was kidnapped and robbed of $127 by two males. Robertson was not injured.
A public hearing was held in Dublin concerning public housing in Bladen County.
Three Bladen County students were nominated to the Air Force Academy. They were Pat White of Clarkton, Richard Lee and Victor Lynn Hedgepeth of Bladenboro. White graduated from the Academy and became the first Afro American woman to become a jet pilot. After a stint in the Air Force White became an airline pilot.
