* The Bank of North Carolina hosted a dinner at White Lake for officials of Carolina Power and Light and citizens of the area to inform them of the proposed nuclear plant to be built on the South River on land in Bladen and Sampson counties. Over 100 citizens attended the meeting and voiced their great displeasure about the proposed plant.
* Waccamaw Bank and Trust Co. opened a new branch in Elizabethtown.
* New officers for the Elizabethtown Rescue Squad were: Larry Smith, Chief, Hubert Kinlaw, Assistant Chief, Charles Byrd, Secretary, Mickey Pedro, Treasurer. Squad Leaders were Jimmy Clark, Charles DeVane, Donald Hill, and Lewis Smith.
