The theme for National Library Week 2024, “Ready, Set, Library!”, sets the stage for a week-long celebration of libraries’ vital role in communities. Renowned author Meg Medina, serving as the Honorary Chair for 2024, brings her expertise as the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature and recipient of the Newbery and Pura Belpré awards to this prestigious event.

In a press release from the American Library Association, Medina expressed her enthusiasm: “I’m thrilled to serve as the honorary chair of National Library Week for 2024! Libraries connect our communities and enrich our lives in ways we may not realize, and one of my greatest pleasures is discovering the unexpected and beautiful things libraries offer.”

The celebration offers numerous ways to participate and engage with local libraries. Residents are encouraged to visit their library during this special week, where many exciting events are planned. From meeting librarians to attending programs or exploring the diverse collection of books and resources, National Library Week provides an opportunity to discover all libraries offer.

Additionally, library enthusiasts can join the #HowILibrary movement by sharing their favorite library experiences on social media platforms. By posting photos or videos showcasing their library activities and using the hashtag #HowILibrary, participants can win exciting prizes while celebrating libraries’ unique role in their lives.

As April unfolds, residents are invited to bloom alongside the Bladen County Public Library. Whether seeking knowledge, entertainment, or a welcoming space to connect with others, the local libraries offer diverse resources and programs catering to all interests and ages.

With branches in Elizabethtown, Bladenboro, and Clarkton, the Bladen County libraries are hubs of learning, community engagement, and socialization. Library Card Sign-Up Month, celebrated in September, further underscores the importance of libraries in providing access to vast collections, educational opportunities, and cost-effective entertainment.

Visit Bladen County libraries’ websites or connect with them on social media to explore the wealth of resources available. As National Library Week approaches, let’s come together to celebrate the transformative power of libraries in our communities.
