The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is not just a law enforcement agency; it’s a team dedicated to the community. BCSO Administrative Employee of the Year, Tracy Hatcher, has served the office and community for 19 years. Born and bred in Bladen County, Hatcher exemplifies the compassionate and dedicated spirit of the Sheriff’s Office. As a single mother of three, she balances her demanding role at the office with her passions for fishing, football, and creative building projects.

Hatcher’s journey with the Sheriff’s Office began with the inspiration drawn from her uncle Lewis and his distinguished law enforcement career. Her educational background includes Detention Officer Certification, DCI Certification, and TAC Certification, equipping her with a broad skill set to handle various critical functions within the department.

In her multifaceted role, Hatcher is the linchpin that helps keep the Sheriff’s Office running smoothly. She’s the cheerful assistant to Chief Morgan Johnson and Executive Assistant Mrs. Sherly Young, the TAC (Terminal Agency Coordinator) ensuring department compliance with DCI certifications, and the overseer of the PULP program focusing on child safety. Furthermore, she manages the sex offender unit and collaborates closely with her colleagues Kim and Crystal on Domestic Violence Orders. Her support extends to assisting Captain Singletary with ordering supplies, a testament to her versatile involvement in the department’s operations.

Hatcher’s motivation is fueled by a love for helping others, regardless of their circumstances, driving her to serve with compassion and dedication. When faced with obstacles, her approach is rooted in faith, prayer, and putting God first—a belief that she carries into every aspect of her work. Her words of wisdom resonate with biblical echoes, emphasizing kindness, respect, and maintaining a positive attitude.

“Put God first in everything you do,” Hatcher advises. “Always treat people with kindness and respect, regardless of race or gender.”

She understands the power of a smile or a kind word and encourages others to uplift those around them. By citing Colossians 4:5-6, “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man,” she underscores the importance of wisdom. She is making the most of every opportunity, and letting grace define conversations.

Tracy Hatcher is more than an employee; she serves as a role model of strength and virtue within the community. Her presence is a daily reminder of the values that make the Sheriff’s Office not just a place of work, but a place of hope and support for the entire county.
