ELIZABETHTOWN – Corben Chadwick, Stryker Pait and Jayden Bethea combined to pitch a 2-hitter and strike out 9 batters as the Yard Goats defeated the Rays 4-1 in the Bladen Dixie Boys League’s season opener Friday night.

Chadwick started on the hill and worked 5.1 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit, 4 walks and a hit batter while striking out 8. Pait worked 0.1 innings of relief and allowed a run on a hit and 2 hit batters while striking out 1. Bethea came on to get the final out in relief.

Aidan Thompson hammered a triple to right-center field to start the Yard Goat 2nd inning and scored the game’s 1st run on Gaston Russ’ fielder’s choice.

Eli Woodell walked, and Ryne Priest smacked a single to center field in the Yard Goat 3rd inning. Woodell scored to stretch the lead to 2-0.

Gunner Lewis was hit by a pitch in the Yard Goat 6th inning and raced home when Ryker Strickland ripped a triple to left-center field. Strickland later scored to pad the lead to 4-0.

Christopher Rorick was hit by a pitch, and Josh Williamson laced a single to right-center field with 2 outs in the home half of the 6th inning. Jackson Williams was hit by a pitch, and Johnny Douglas walked. Rorick scored to trim the final margin to 4-1.

Noah German started on the mound and pitched 5.2 innings for the Rays allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Jerod Smith worked 0.1 innings of relief and allowed 2 runs on a hit, a walk and a hit batter.

Thompson tripled and scored a run for the Yard Goats. Strickland tripled, scored a run and drove in a run. Priest, Drake Gause and Ritchie Gonzalez-Velazquez connected for 1 hit each. Russ had a run batted in. Lewis and Woodell scored a run each.

Smith and Williamson belted a single each for the Rays. Rorick scored the Rays run.
