US Army Special Forces Instructors concluded a Woodland Search and Mantracking Class this weekend for members of local Law Enforcement, State Patrol, Emergency Management, and Fire/Rescue Services from all over North Carolina.

The class was hosted by the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Training Division and it was conducted in the woodland areas of the Jones Lake State Park, Turnbull Creek State Forest, and the woodland areas behind the Bladen County Emergency Services Training Center.

According to Instructor Sergeant Gary Turlington, the focus was to teach the attending personnel valuable skills in locating lost children, lost adults, or fleeing fugitives in a woodland environment indicative of our region of North Carolina. Additionally, ground navigation skills, team operations, incident command principles, night operations, and tactical deployment of manpower and resources were taught and practiced over the six day class delivery.

Sgt. Turlington stated, “The relationships developed among the attendees are a direct benefit to our citizens and region so that if there is an extended search required in our region of North Carolina, the necessary assets and manpower is available.”

This is the fourth presentation and delivery of this skillset training in Bladen County since Sheriff McVicker directed the establishment of allied resources and relationships to better serve our citizens. Logistical support was provided by Bladen Community College and the Bladen County Emergency Services Training Center.
