Bladen County high school athletic teams have begun practice for the upcoming fall sports season. First games are set for August 13.
Leading up to season openers, many Bladen teams will participate in preseason scrimmages. The highlight event will be the Bladen Cup boys’ soccer scrimmages at East Bladen.
Six boys’ soccer teams will participate in 30-minute scrimmages during the Bladen Cup. Admission will be $8 and concessions will be available for purchase.
Here is the Bladen Cup schedule:
West Bladen vs. Wilmington Laney, 5:30 p.m.
Red Springs vs. South Columbus, 6 p.m.
East Bladen vs. Wilmington Laney, 6:30 p.m.
Red Springs vs. Whiteville, 7 p.m.
West Bladen vs. South Columbus, 7:30 p.m.
East Bladen vs. Whiteville, 8 p.m.
On August 8, the West Bladen boys’ soccer team will scrimmage at Lumberton and the East Bladen boys’ soccer team will play Topsail and Dixon in scrimmages at Dixon.
The East Bladen volleyball team will be the first Bladen team to participate in scrimmages August 3 during a Jamboree at Sandhills Community College.
The West Bladen football team is scheduled to scrimmage at South Brunswick at 9 a.m. on August 9 and participate in the Sampson County Jamboree at Midway on August 16 at 7 p.m. against Lakewood.
The East Bladen football team has three scrimmages scheduled. The Eagles will be at Scotland on August 9 at 6 p.m., at Wallace-Rose Hill on August 14 at 5 p.m. and at West Brunswick on August 16 at 7:15 p.m.
