The Bladenboro Town Board met on Monday night and recognized the Junior Beta Club from Bladenboro Middle School. The Junior Beta Club qualified to attend the Junior Beta National Convention to be held in Orlando, Florida in June.

“This is our future,” said Bladenboro Mayor Rufus Duckworth as the room was filled to capacity with Beta Club members and their families. The Junior Beta Club has 60 students of which 40 attended the convention which was held in Greensboro. The motto of the Beta’s is “Let us lead by serving others.”

The club earned several honors for Bladenboro. The club placed first in banner, John Benson placed second in Science and the school placed second in T-shirt.

Polly Hancock, one of the teachers, said the Betas will be having spaghetti dinner fundraiser and maybe a talent show. She said the cost to travel to the National Convention is $460 per child.

“It gets pretty expensive but we have done it in the past,” said Hancock.

Beta Club sponsors include Linda Parnell, Angie Campbell, Jennifer Keyser and Mrs Randi Harrelson and Vitha Nemeroff.
