The Bladenboro Police Department is warning citizens to be aware of a grant scam.
Chief Chris Hunt said that a citizen received a telephone call informing her she had been awarded a $9,000 grant. Chief Hunt said the caller told the victim she had to send the company $200 to cover fees associated with the grant.
Chief Hunt said that fortunately the victim realized the call was not legitimate and did not give out any personal information to the caller.
“If you have truly won a prize you will never be asked to pay any money to receive something that you have won,” said Chief Hunt.
