Bladenboro Town HallThe Bladenboro Town Council met in regular session Monday night to discuss several issues of importance to the local community. On the Consent Agenda, Items, Minutes, and Reports were approved, as were the Tax Releases, (including the 2005 Tax Releases). Bids for carpets must be in by the September 28th deadline.

A motion was passed to secure the services of a concrete finisher for ADA parking and the bleacher base at McLean Park. Recommendations were requested. A local individual was named and will most likely agree to complete the work. Name withheld for now.

An agreement was reached to provide the community with an Online Bill Pay Service, through Bankcard Associates/Logics Software. The fee the customer will pay when using the service will be $3.50 per transaction, to be reassessed after one year.

The Council decided to participate in the NC Local Government Debt Setoff Clearinghouse Program, and fully understand the responsibilities associated with the program.

Council then went into closed session to discuss matters of personnel. Bladenboro has reviewed many applications for the position of Town Administrator, and seeks to find a permanent placement for the position. Melanie Hester has been performing all the duties of administrator, but wishes to return to her former position as Clerk.

In closing, Commissioner, Everette Butler, wished to thank the Bladenboro Fire Department for clearing tree limbs, and preventive maintenance done to ensure safety. Mayor Duckworth moved that the meeting be continued to Wednesday night at 7PM, (Sept. 16th) the motion was seconded, and the meeting adjourned.

Wednesday night’s meeting will be a closed session to discuss personnel matters.
