Among the various crops cultivated in this fertile land, blueberries stand out as a star player, earning Bladen as one of the largest blueberry producer in the state.

According to Becky Spearman, the county director for the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Bladen’s diverse agricultural landscape encompasses crops like corn, soybeans, cotton, peanuts, and wheat. However, it’s the soil’s perfect conditions for blueberry cultivation that have truly set Bladen apart in the agricultural world.

Blueberry farming has become synonymous with Bladen County, drawing both locals and visitors alike to indulge in the sweet, juicy berries that flourish here. The temperate climate, coupled with nutrient-rich soil, creates an ideal environment for blueberry bushes to thrive, yielding bountiful harvests year after year.

In celebration of Bladen’s blueberry bounty, we’ve curated three delightful recipes that showcase the versatility and deliciousness of this beloved berry:

1. Blueberry Lemonade

– 1 cup fresh blueberries
– 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
– 1/2 cup granulated sugar
– 4 cups cold water
– Ice cubes
– Lemon slices and fresh blueberries for garnish

1. In a blender, combine the fresh blueberries, lemon juice, and granulated sugar. Blend until smooth.
2. Strain the blueberry mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove any pulp.
3. In a pitcher, combine the strained blueberry mixture with cold water. Stir well to combine.
