June 11, 2019 – Boost the ‘Boro, Inc. announced today that Haley Brooke Hester and Alana Nichole King, both graduates of West Bladen High School, are the recipients of this year’s Boost the ‘Boro Scholarship.

According to Sunday Allen, Scholarship Committee Chair, “The final selection was a difficult one for our four person committee, all being excellent students and outstanding individuals and each having excelled both academically and in their personal lives. It is gratifying to know that Bladen County has so many high caliber students and we are honored to provide these award to help them continue moving forward in their educational efforts and ultimate career choices.”

Haley Brooke Hester

Haley Brooke Hester graduated from West Bladen High School with a
cumulative GPA of 3.83 and has received Associate’s Degrees from Bladen
Community College in both Arts and Science as a dual enrollee. Haley will
attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington to pursue a degree in
Biology and plans to continue her career as a Physician’s Assistant, returning to
rural Bladen County to provide affordable quality healthcare. She is a member
of the Beta Club, National Technical Honor Society, HOSA, FFA and Varsity
Clubs. She is a Varsity cheerleader, studied dance with Dance Infinity and is
active in her church at Foundation Bible Church. Haley is a student member of Boost the Boro and contributed many hours of her free time in the downtown clean-up efforts after recent storms that devastated the Bladenboro area. Haley is the daughter of Tammie and Rodney Hester and the late Dewayne Hester.

Alana Nichole King

Alana Nichole King graduated from West Bladen High School with a cumulative
GPA of 4.09 and has also received an Associate’s of Arts Degree from Bladen
Community College as a dual enrollee. She will be attending the University of North Carolina at Pembroke to pursue a degree in Education and is planning a career as an Elementary School teacher. She is a member of the Glee Club, FCA and has been a Beta Club member for the past six years, where she has competed on two separate occasions in special talent events at the annual Convention. Alana has been a member of the Yearbook staff all four years of high school and has earned the title of Ads and Events section leader. She is also a member of the West Bladen Volleyball team, has played softball and been a member of the track team. Singing is Alana’s most favorite hobby and she is very active in her church youth group at New Light Church and a member of
the Praise and Worship team and media team and also is a frequent volunteer at the local food pantry. Alana is the daughter of Shelley and Allan King
