RED SPRINGS – Senior guard Caleel Mitchell bombed in four 3-point shots and scored 19 points Friday night to lead Red Springs to a 77-39 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball victory over East Bladen.

Mitchell and Jayshawn Carthens connected on one 3-point shot each and combined for 13 first-period points as the Red Devils took an 18-12 lead.

Junior guard Adonis Avery drained a 3-point shot, and Avery, freshman Javant McDowell and Robert Cooley scored a basket each for East Bladen in the first quarter.

Mitchell caught fire in the second quarter and sparked a 24-9 Red Devil surge with a trio of 3-point baskets. Senior Marcus Monroe contributed a trio of baskets and a free throw as the Red Springs lead grew to 42-21.

Reashoid Pone drilled in a 3-point shot, and Messiah Leach made a trio of free throws for East in the quarter.

Nichorie West nailed a 3-point shot and hit 2 free throws to lead a 20-6 Red Springs rally in the third quarter that pushed the lead to 62-27.

Anthony Wooten fired in a trio of 3-point shots in the second half and led the Eagle scoring with 9 points. Avery finished with 7 points, and Byron Bowen followed with 5 points.

Carthens finished with 13 points for the winners.

East Bladen will host West Columbus Tuesday.
