Spread the love

On Wednesday, September 14, Bladen Online received a voicemail from Seth Lewis where he thought it would be a good idea for us to contact his brother-in-law, Stan Matthews, a British citizen. After speaking with Matthews, we learned a great deal of things about him and his perception of Queen Elizabeth II.

Matthews is an ex-military serviceman who has as much respect for the Queen as everyone else. He uttered, “Everyone is saddened by her death.”

When Matthews was stationed in Edinburgh, Scotland, he did get to see the Queen once as she was waiting in her car across the road from the military base for her daughter, Princess Anne. As he went by, she looked up and smiled at him. He remembers her as “… a unique woman who kept her promise to the nation.”

Matthews was born and raised in the United Kingdom. He lived there for 50 years, came to the United States, and has been happily married to a US citizen for 14 years. Being in the UK for 50 years, Matthews noticed that the Queen did a tremendous amount for the United Kingdom, the commonwealth, and nations worldwide. An interesting fact about Matthews is that he actually received his citizenship seven years ago on the anniversary of 9/11. Matthews is now located in Bladenboro, NC as a Bladen County Resident.
