I think I speak for a lot of us when I say “Coffee is a necessity.” The hot or cold, sweetened or unsweetened, black or creamy beverage wakes us up in the morning and keeps us running throughout the day. It relaxes us, warms us up, or even cools us down. Coffee is loved by many in many different forms, but today we spotlight the ever-so-loved, frothy, steamy, Italian coffee drink — the cappuccino.
When asked about the anatomy of a cappuccino, Kelly Barefoot (owner of Barefoot Brew and our local coffee expert), said, “The cappuccino is an espresso beverage with steamed milk and milk foam at a one-third of each ration, compared to the popular latte which is espresso, steamed milk, and less steamed milk foam.” In terms of flavor, she added, “The cappuccino is generally a strong flavor, as it has less milk than a latte. At Barefoot Brew, we can add any of our flavors to a cappuccino.”
According to nationaldaycalendar.com, “The word cappuccino comes from the Capuchin friars and is the diminutive form of cappuccio in Italian, meaning hood or something that covers the head. This popular coffee beverage got its name not from the hood on their habits but from the color of the hooded robes that the friars wore. (The Capuchin friars is an Order of friars in the Catholic Church, among the chief offshoots of the Franciscans.)”
