There are needs we all have from day to day. Some local people have found a way to help the hungry and downtrodden with more than food.

Second Chance Community Church, Love of Christ Ministries, Inc., and others are working together for the betterment of their community. In Elizabethtown on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s, 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., joy can be found along with a hot meal and encouragement at Second Chance Church. The church, located beside the Post Office in Elizabethtown, hosts a worship and prayer time, along with a free lunch for those who are hungry in the community. This is accomplished by working with the Love Of Christ Ministries Inc.

According to Pastor Jerry Hood, the Bible verse found in 1 John 3:16 is the motto of Love Of Christ Ministries, Inc. The verse states, “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”

Pastor Jerry Hood, along with Pastor Dwight Holland, made the plan to start feeding folks over a year ago. Now the two pastors, other churches, as well as loyal community volunteers like Mattie McAllister, serve meals at Second Chance Church.Meals are also provided at Southeastern Carolina Crossroads and various places in Bladen County, every Tuesday and ThursdayPastor Hood said Kinlaw Grocery donates the food every week. Donations for the ministry can also be made by individuals. If you would like to find out more about the ministry visit their website at www.loveofChristministries.org

Pastor Dwight Holland and Second Chance Community church member Billy, invite everyone to join Second Chance Community Church on Sundays at 11 a.m. and on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. The church is located beside the Post Office, at 205 South Poplar, Elizabethtown
