Spread the love

On Saturday, members of the Clarkton Lions Club along with friends and family participated in the seventh annual Strides Walk for Diabetes.

Lions all over the world organize Strides events in their communities to heighten the awareness of diabetes and its complications, and to provide information on preventing and managing the disease. These events promote regular, healthy exercise and include participants of all ages.

Registration for the Diabetes Awareness event began at 8:30 am on Saturday. Participants who wished to receive a t-shirt paid $15 to participate in the 5K walk. Participants had the opportunity to walk at their leisure for a good cause — to come together in the fight against diabetes.

When asked about the turnout, Mr. Keith Croom stated, “Not very many people… Probably the cold weather and wind. This is our 7th annual walk we’ve done. This is a program made by the Lions Clubs International in order to raise diabetes awareness.”

The Clarkton Lions Club meets the second and fourth Tuesday at 6:30 pm every month at the Clarkton Fire Department on Peach Street in Clarkton. Members say, “We are seeking new members and welcome those who are interested in serving our community to join us.”
