Bladen County Schools is proud to announce that the Beta Club at Clarkton School of Discovery is a recipient of the 2023-2024 National Beta John W. Harris Leadership Award. Named for the organization’s founder, the John W. Harris Leadership Award recognizes outstanding clubs based on how they embody Beta’s four pillars of achievement, character, leadership and service.

The Alumni Review Committee reviews the award nominations and the top five clubs per division are carefully selected. Awarded clubs are eligible to take 10 members to the Regional
Leadership Summit in the Fall. The Summit provides students an opportunity to focus on their communication, networking and leadership skills. National Elementary Beta includes grades 4-5, National Junior Beta includes grades 6-8 and National Senior Beta includes grades 9-12.

“This is a big deal, not only to me and to our Beta Club, but our entire school community. As a club, we can dance and sing all day long but to be recognized for our service, character and
leadership, that is another level,” shared CSD Beta Sponsor, Elizabeth Priest. “Our school has amazing teachers and staff, and this recognition illustrates how we pour into our students and
instill the importance of giving back—THAT is what it is ALL about. I could not be prouder of our Beta Club members and the community our school has built.”
