Governor Pat McCrory invites college students in North Carolina to apply for the State of N.C. Internship Program for Summer 2016.
“The State Internship Program provides students an opportunity to develop their skills and learn about public service while gaining real workplace experience,” Governor McCrory said. “I encourage college students to take advantage of this unique internship opportunity.”
The governor’s Youth Advocacy & Involvement Office (YAIO), within the N.C. Department of Administration, is accepting applications postmarked by January 15, 2016.
Internships will occur May 24 through July 29, 2016. To be eligible, the applicant must be a permanent North Carolina resident and attend a college, university, law school, technical institute, or community college (please visit YAIO online for a full list of eligibility requirements).
The State of N.C. Internship Program offers students real-world experience in a wide range of state government workplaces. Internships provide opportunities for students to work in their chosen field and to consider careers in public service. More than 4,000 students have participated since the program was established in 1969.
“These paid internships open doors for students throughout state government. We offer an array of fun and professional work experiences across North Carolina from the mountains to the sea,” said Candace Dudley, Internship Coordinator of the Youth Advocacy & Involvement Office.
The internships are designed to integrate education, career development and public service. Opportunities exist in numerous recognized fields of study, from accounting to zoology. Interns will also participate in other activities that broaden their view of public service and state government, such as seminars and tours.
Interns are selected through a competitive process overseen by the N.C. Internship Council. Selection and placement is based on a thorough review of applications, which include academic records, applicant’s interest in state government and interviews with prospective supervisors.
