The Bladen County Commissioners met on Monday and dealt with requests from the Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Management and the Board of Education.

County Commissioners Sheriff Office BCC  Jeff Singletary (pictured left) of the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office told the board that Bladen Community College has requested the Sheriff’s Office station two uniformed deputies at the campus.

He told the board that BCC will pay for the costs of equipping the deputies,pay the salaries for the deputies,  and vehicles from the department’s spare fleet will be utilized.

The request was approved.

County Commissioners Kinlaw Merg ServicesBladen County Emergency Management Director Bradley Kinlaw (pictured left) asked the board to consider approving funding of priority items and completion of work regarding the Public Safety Training Center at White Lake.

The items include a survey, roof repairs, heating and air conditioning for the chapel and classrooms, and paint at a total cost of about $10,800. The measure was approved.

The Bladen County Board of Education submitted a request, for capital outlay funds in the amount of $56,337. Bladen County Manager Greg Martin told the board this is the first request by the Board of Education for this fiscal year.

“Sales tax money does come to the county earmarked for the school board,” said Martin.

Planned projects include replacing the carpet in the West Bladen High School band room due to flooding at a cost of $4,930; purchase and install a canopy at the front of Bladen Lakes Primary School for students and parents at a cost of $5,946; purchase and install a canopy at the front entrance of the school for students and parents at a cost $1,329; install a French drain at WBHS as recommended by the NCDPI engineer to prevent future flooding at the band room and around the building; retrofit lights in the main gym at East Bladen High School to LED to decrease utility expense, reduce labor, and material expense at a cost of $4,290; retrofit lights in the main gym at WBHS to LED to decrease utility expense, reduce labor, and material expense at a cost of $4,290; purchase bleachers for the baseball field  to replace those that were reconditioned for the football field at Bladenboro Middle School at a cost of $14,280.

The board approved the measure.
