WASHINGTON – Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) issued this statement after Senator Chuck Schumer decided to end his shutdown of America’s government:
“What exactly was the point of Senator Schumer’s shutdown? All that was accomplished was showing the American people the true priorities of Congressional Democrats. They prioritized illegal immigrants over American soldiers and at-risk children. President Trump and I remain committed to putting America first, including securing our border.”
Tonight, Congressman Pittenger voted to concur in the Senate Amendment to H.R. 195, which funds the federal government through February 8th. In September, Congressman Pittenger joined House Republicans to pass all twelve annual appropriations bills, which would have responsibly funded the federal government through September 2018. Senate Democrats have blocked consideration of long-term funding legislation.
