The deadline is quickly approaching if your child would like to participate in the 4-H/FFA Laying Hens project. The deadline to register is Tuesday, January 8, 2019.
A Flyer and Registration form announcing the activity can be found here https://bladen.ces.ncsu.edu/2018/12/2019-regional-chicken-project/. Participants must be between the ages of 5 to 18 as of January 1, 2019 to participate. They must be a member of FFA or 4-H, but membership in 4-H can be established by contacting the Bladen County 4-H agent to complete required online 4-H enrollment.
The Chicken Project enables youth to learn and develop the responsibility for raising, caring, and showing chickens; provides opportunity for public speaking in front of a judge; creates an opportunity for egg business in the future; and many other great life skills. As you can see on the attached registration form; registration for laying hens is required by January 8 so that orders can be placed in time for a February delivery and registration for broilers is not required until February 8.
Our Bladen County Livestock Agent, Becky Spearman, or 4-H Agent, Stacie Kinlaw can be reached at (910) 862-4591 if you have any questions or need additional information.
