ELIZABETHTOWN – The Rays threw out a potential tying run at the plate in the final inning to preserve a 4-3 Dixie Boys Baseball victory over the Braves Thursday night.

The Rays carried a 4-1 lead into the 6th, but Delton Murdock walloped a 1-out home run. Aaron Rogers reached base on an error, and Joshua Strickland reached on an error as Rogers scored. However a relay throw from Claxton Tatum to Greylon Robinson to Hutchens Glenn retired Strickland at the plate and a pop-up ended the game.

The Braves grabbed the early lead as Brooks Carroll laced a single to right-center field, and Cole Brisson ripped a single to left-center. Devan Stanley knocked in Brisson with a single to right-center field.

The Rays answered in the bottom of the 1st. Tatum walked, and Rex Register was hit by a pitch. Noah German pounded a double that scored Tatum and Register for a 2-1 lead.

Register was hit by a pitch again, and Glenn walked in the 3rd inning. Robinson blasted a triple that scored both Register and Glenn to push the lead to 4-1.

German batted 2-for-3 with the double and 2 RBIs to lead the Rays hitters. Robinson bashed the 2-run triple, Register and Joel Lewis added 1 hit each. Register scored 2 runs. Tatum and Glenn also scored runs.

German pitched a complete-game 4-hitter, struck out 3 and allowed 3 runs – 2 earned – on 4 hits and a walk. Luke Bryant pitched a 5-hitter and struck out 11 batters for the Braves. He allowed 4 runs, walked 7 and hit 2.

Brisson batted 2-for-2 and scored a run for the Braves. Murdock slugged the solo homer. Stanley cracked an RBI single, and Carroll smacked a single. Rogers scored a run.
