ELIZABETHTOWN – Lee Barnes’ three-run triple keyed a six-run first-inning that propelled the Red to an 11-1 victory over the Navy in Monday night’s Dixie Boys Baseball action.

Hunter Elks led off the Red first with a single, and Tyler Johnson slammed a double. Zamar Lewis belted a single that scored Johnson. Carson Gooden ripped a single, and Walker Ward slugged a double that scored Lewis. After Chase Knight walked, Barnes walloped the bases-clearing triple then later scored for a 6-0 lead.

Riley Stanley and Cameron Singletary laced one-out singles in the Navy third inning, and Dalton Hester and Colin Britt drew walks as Stanley scored the lone Navy run.

Barnes cracked a single in the fourth inning and stole two bases, including home plate, to pad the Red lead to 7-1.

Elks walked to begin the Red fifth inning, stole third and raced home when Lewis ripped a double to right field. Gooden knocked in Lewis with a single, and Ward smashed a double. Barnes drove in Gooden and Ward with a single as the lead grew to 11-1.

Britt Sasser pitched the first three innings for the Red and allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out two. Elks worked the final two scoreless innings on the mound and allowed two hits and a walk while striking out four.

Barnes batted a perfect 3-for-3 with the triple, five runs batted in and two runs scored to lead the Red. Ward hammered a pair of doubles, drove in a run and scored two runs. Lewis finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.

Johnson batted 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Gooden finished 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. Elks singled and scored twice. Knight also scored a run.

Stanley batted 2-for-2 with a run scored to lead the Navy hitters. Singletary and Alex Strange connected for one hit each.

Coach Eddie Knight’s Red team remained unbeaten with a 3-0 record.
