Raleigh — Doris Schweriner Silvers, 93, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully on Saturday, December 29. She was born December 8, 1925 in Philadelphia. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Alan, and her parents Edwin and Yvette Schweriner.
Doris was generous, kind-hearted and never met a stranger. She loved plants, needlepoint, bird figurines, and the UNC Tarheels. Family always came first to her. She was a member of Beth Meyer Synagogue and a past-president of the Raleigh Antique Association.
Doris and her husband Alan were married in 1947 in Philadelphia. They along with their two young daughters moved to Raleigh in 1955. They eventually opened their wonderful antique store, Reese’s Antiques on Hwy 70 in 1969. Each year they went on buying trips to England and Scotland to purchase the finest 18th and 19th century furniture and accessories.
Survivors include daughters Jackie Neuwirth of Wilmington and Eileen Leinwand and husband Ricky of Elizabethtown; Grandchildren Michael Leinwand and wife Sharon of Leland; Erican Mehler and husband Morgan of Belville; Debbie Kulowiec of Wilmington; Ryan Neuwirth of Ocean Isle Beach; great-grandchildren Adam and Ethan Leinwand; and Penelope and Theodore Mehler. Also surviving are brother Edwin Schweriner and wife Claire of Dresher, Pa. and niece and nephew Randi and Jeffery. The family would also like to thank caregivers Connie and Latasha for their dedicated service.
A graveside service will be held at Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery, located at 450 North State St., at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 1.
