Bladen County Sheriff's DepartmentSheriff James A. McVicker said a shooting that happened in the East Arcadia community Friday afternoon has led to the arrest of four men.

“We received multiple 911 calls around 2:30 this afternoon of shots being fired at 161 Carter Road in the East Arcadia Community,” McVicker said. “The callers said at least two people had been shot and gave a description of the vehicle involved. One of my deputies who was responding to the call met a vehicle matching the description on NC 211 near Council and when he attempted to stop them they fled at a high rate of speed. Deputies pursued them several miles and were able to force them off the road on Mercer Mill Road just before they entered the city limits of Elizabethtown.’

McVicker said two men jumped from the fleeing vehicle at one point during the pursuit and at least one weapon was thrown from the vehicle and later recovered. Deputies arrested two men in the vehicle.

Other officers responding to the shooting scene on Carter Road learned from witnesses that a car holding four individuals drove by a residence where there were at least 10 individuals sitting around outside and began firing. The victims all scattered and two were shot and transported by private vehicle to New Hanover Hospital in Wilmington where they were treated for gunshot wounds. None of the wounds were felt to be life threatening.

“Officers learned this was a retaliation type shooting from one that had occurred earlier today in Columbus county,” said McVicker. “We have worked with Columbus county deputies to assist them on their investigation.”

McVicker said the two victims who were shot were Gyrell Munn, 43, of 1552 East Arcadia Road, Riegelwood, and Tina Simpson, 18, of 294 Kennedy Store Road, Riegelwood.

The following two individuals have been arrested and charged.

Trent Martin Jr., 24 of 83 Robinson Temple Road, Elizabethtown. Martin was charged with Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest, two counts of Assault With a Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill and one count of Discharging a Firearm From Within An Enclosure.

Phil Andrew Wilson Jr., 26, of 380 Wilson McKoy Road, Elizabethtown. Wilson was charged with two counts of Assault With a Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill and one count of Discharging a Firearm From Within An Enclosure.

Warrants have been obtained for two other individuals who have yet to be arrested.

Jamie Tyquan Powell, 26, of 2900 West Broad Street, Elizabethtown, charged with two counts of Assault With a Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill and one count of Discharging a Firearm From Within An Enclosure.

Donte Premier Jones, 19, of 71 Jasmine Lane, Clarkton, also charged with two counts of Assault With a Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill and one count of Discharging a Firearm From Within An Enclosure.

“The sad part of this was how senseless it was,” McVicker concluded. “Neither one of the two people shot were involved in the earlier altercation. They were two people doing nothing wrong. My deputies collected over 30 spent shell casing at the scene. Witnesses said all four individuals in the vehicle were firing weapons This type of violence will not be tolerated. These men put too many lives at stake for no good reason.”
