RIEGELWOOD – Columbus County scored 7 runs in the 5th inning and rallied from a 16-10 deficit to edge Bladen County 17-16 Sunday in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 AA (Coach Pitch) Supplemental Tournament.
The loss eliminated Bladen County from the tournament. Columbus County advanced to the championship game but lost 20-4 to South Columbus.
Britton “BB” Christian, Reid Butler, Jackson Davis and Carter Valenta smacked consecutive singles to start the Bladen County 1st inning. Jensen Burney blasted a home run, and Julian Bryant , Grayson Babson and Gus Bordeaux belted consecutive singles. Christian, Butler, Davis, Valenta, Burney, Bryant and Babson all scored runs.
Cedairus Ballard, Alex Meares and Davis smashed singles in the Bladen 2nd inning, and Meares scored to keep the score tied 8-8.
Colton Thompson led off the 3rd inning with a single, and Burney slammed a double that scored Thompson for a 9-8 Bladen lead.
Bordeaux laced a single to start the Bladen 4th inning, and Meares walloped a double. Christian, Butler and Davis ripped consecutive singles, and Valenta crushed a triple. Thompson and Burney raked singles, and Bordeaux, Meares, Christian, Butler, Davis, Valenta and Thompson all scored runs to open up a 16-10 Bladen County lead.
Burney batted 3-for-3, slugged a home run and a double and scored 3 runs to lead the Bladen hitters. Davis turned in a 3-for-3 game and scored 2 runs. Meares batted 2-for-2 with a double and 2 runs scored. Bordeaux turned in a 2-for-2 game and scored a run.
Valenta finished 2-for-3 with a triple and 2 runs scored. Christian batted 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored. Butler turned in a 2-for-3 game with 2 runs scored. Thompson finished 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored. Bryant, Babson and Ballard swatted 1 hit each. Bryant and Babson scored 1 run each.
