TABOR CITY – Whiteville defeated Bladen County 5-4 Monday night in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 AAA (Minors) Tournament.

Whiteville pushed across an unearned run in the 5th inning to snap a 4-4 tie and held on for the win.

Bladen County will play Riegelwood at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Brayden Johnson walked to start the Bladen County 1st inning but was retired on Malakye Rogers’ fielder’s choice. Tyler Thurman laced a single to center field, and Chatham Rigsbee drove in Rogers with the 1st Bladen run.

Avion Clark was hit by a pitch, Abel Ezzell singled, and Jace Rogers cracked a double that pushed Whiteville ahead 2-1 in the 2nd inning.

Blaine Soles walked and Chaytum Rhodes smashed a 2-run home run to stretch the Whiteville lead to 4-1 in the 3rd inning.

Bladen County answered in the bottom of the 3rd. Malakye Rogers belted a 2-out single and scored when Thurman pounded a double to center field. Rigsbee walloped a 2-run home run to center field that tied the score 4-4.

Thurman batted 3-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored. Malakye Rogers finished 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Rigsbee slugged the 2-run homer and totaled 3 RBIs in the game. Cory Singletary smacked a single for the other Bladen hit.
