PEMBROKE – West Robeson exploded for 7 runs in the 2nd inning to grab an 8-1 lead enroute to a 14-4 victory over Elizabethtown Saturday in the opening round of the Diamond Youth Baseball District Majors Tournament.
Elizabethtown will play the Fairmont/Red Springs loser Sunday at 2 p.m. in an elimination game.
Owen Hall led off the game with a single but was retired on Aiden Wooten’s fielder’s choice. Colt Lewis hammered a double to left-center field that scored Wooten. Damion Maynor walked and Lewis later scored to put Elizabethtown up 2-0.
West Robeson rallied with a run in the home 1st then pulled away in the 2nd inning. Jabari Adams-Peterson and Cooper Patrick drew walks in the Elizabethtown 3rd inning but were stranded on base.
Wooten reached base on an error to start the Elizabethtown 4th inning, and Maynor knocked him in with a double to centerfield. Khalil Moore ripped a double to left that scored Maynor.
Lewis, Maynor and Moore all slammed doubles and drove in 1 run each to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Hall added a single. Wooten scored 2 runs. Lewis and Maynor scored 1 run each.
