Town Of ElizabethtownBY: Erin Smith

The town of Elizabethtown has been awarded a Parks and Recreation Trust Fund grant in the amount of $250,000.

Elizabethtown Town Manager Eddie Madden said the total amount of the work to be done is $580,187. He said the remaining funds will come from appropriations from the town and from other grant sources.

The plans for the park call for paved trails to improve access to the park and to meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, installation of a raised boardwalk to the river, renovations to the bathroom facilities, installation of all new playground system for children with a nature-based theme, a horse shoe pit and a nine hole disc golf course.

Madden added there are also plans for improvements to the amphitheater and picnic shelter.

He said the next step will be moving into the engineering and design phase of the project.

“We will be seeking the community’s input as the project proceeds,” said Madden.

He added this will be the first of two phases.

“The second phase will be the continuation of the boardwalk along the river for the length of the park,” said Madden.
