Fairmont’s William McGirt sank a 6-foot par putt on the second play-off hole Sunday to win the Memorial Tournament hosted by Jack Nicklaus in Muirfield, Ohio. It was McGirt’s first win on the PGA Tour after 165 tournaments played over the last 6 seasons.

 
McGirt carded rounds of 70-68-64-71 for a 15-under-par total of 273 which left McGirt tied with Jon Curran. McGirt scrambled with up-and-downs for pars on both play-off holes, while Curran bogeyed the second play-off hole. McGirt was 9 for 9 scrambling over the final 2 rounds.
 
With the victory McGirt earns a full exemption from PGA Tour qualifying for the next 3 seasons, a berth in the PGA Championship and Quicken Loans National this season and a berth in next season’s Masters and Players Championships. He earns 1,530 points toward making the Ryder Cup Team and 500 FedExCup points which puts him in tenth place in the 2015-2016 standings.McGirt also pocketed the $1.5 million winners’ check.
