Thursday saw a beautiful sunrise over the Lock and Dam No. 2 in Elizabethtown. Flood waters from the Cape Fear River could be seen from NC 87.
The Cape Fear River was expected to crest at Lock and Dam No. 3 overnight. At 10:30 p.m. it had reached a level of 75.71 feet, which is higher than the observed level in Hurricane Matthew.
The river in Elizabethtown was expected to crest overnight as well. At 10:30 p.m. the observed level was 41.74 feet, which is higher than the observed level in Hurricane Matthew.
The river in Kelly is expected to set a record when it crests Friday or Saturday morning.
