While Hurricane Florence has been downgraded to a Tropical Depression, the news is still not good as another 5 to 8 inches of rain is forecast to fall across Bladen County on Sunday, September 16, 2018. The county has already been inundated with more than 20 inches of rain during the storm.
Catastrophic flooding is occurring across Bladen County with reports of flooding and rescues taking place in Clarkton and Bladenboro. Flooding is reported to be taking place in Elizabethtown as well.
Many roadways are flooded or have water running across them, according to NC DOT.
The Cape Fear River is expected to reach flood stage today with levels expected to be as high or higher than those experienced in Hurricane Matthew. The National Weather Service is forecasting a record high for the Cape Fear River in the vicinity of Kelly.
A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for people who reside along the Cape Fear River and on River Road, Burney Road and Tar Heel Ferry Road in Bladen County.
Tornadoes also remain a threat for Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
Bladen County remains under a curfew from 8 p.m. until 7 a.m.
