A former detective with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Monday and charged with distributing opiates, according to Columbus County Sheriff Lewis Hatcher.
Christi Caraballo Heath, 32, of Mt. Moriah Church Road in Whiteville, was charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver Schedule II controlled substances and maintaining a vehicle to sell or deliver Schedule II controlled substances. Bond was set at $20,000. Heath was fired as a criminal detective after her arrest, Hatcher said.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, acting upon tips, an undercover officer made purchases of opiates from Heath. Hatcher said that Heath was responsible for distributing opiates throughout Columbus County.
